Grass Eating - Like A Cow
by ~DeevanDozer~ » Fri May 28, 2010 12:52 pm
Hi
My 7yr old staffy is eating grass like it is going out of style.
She has plenty of water, I feed her on purina dry food and she has fresh pet meant and is wormed regularly.
Why do dogs do this?

No mammals are pure carnivores, all are omnivores. The reality is meat just does not contain all that is needed for a balanced diet even for the most voracious of meat eaters.
Grass contains vitamins and minerals which when your dog is lacking in them, they will instinctivly look for in grass. Grass is also high in fibre and will help them if they are constipated. Constipation in dogs is serious business, a piece of stick or bone lodged in their instestines causing a blockage is almost always fatal unless treated.
Your dog might also just like the taste of grass?
I'd not be concerned just make sure they are otherwise healthy and not straining to poo.
